hm. i see now why our macro/micro classes were extremely boooring. numbers, details, explanations, nothing i could get and understand in real life. i also wanna go and check any of our bigger banks, or the stock exchange, or similar institutions we were studying about.

what do you study btw? which school? (if i'm not indiscrete.. haha)

First off it's a high school class so well I don't expect you to know the high school. Anyway it was the first year my high school offered AP Macroeconomics. we started off learning the basics... Scarcity, supply, demand, opportunity costs, PPC, etc... Then we branched into more complex S&D stuff like price ceilings and price floors. All the good stuff associated with S&D. We learned about the elasticity of both supply and demand. We also got a foundation in measuring growth, such as GDP, CPI, PPI, inflation, etc... We also learned about fiscal and monetary policy, how they are employed, why they are employed, and what their effects are. We also learned a lot of other things too like international exchange, the consumption function, etc... I'm probably forgetting a good quarter of the curriculum off the top of my head :p

Well, we don't have economics in high-school.
But I absolutely know what you're talking about cuz this is what I study in college. Except the fact that I'm interested in these things. ;P
In my opinion learning about economics, their bg motivations, processes, finance: all help to have a more realistic view of society and manage your own financies and the earned money in your future life.

The only thing I criticise in our education: too much theory, few practice to understand it and get why it's beneficial for you. Like going for a trip to stock exchange or so. haha.

I agree, economics is very interesting and even in just casual conversations in class our teacher taught in a practical real-life sense about mortgages, retirement accounts, stocks, bonds, etc... So now we're all better prepared for that junk.

I understand it won't be easy by a long shot... I'll probably work my ass off and only become a mediocre doctor. I'm intelligent but far from the best, but I know how to put in hard work and get things done, which seems to be a more valuable skill sometimes than intelligence.

Yeah, agree on that. I think it's the most important you like what you do, then you have more persistence and mood. Recent days it's not even neccessary to have one profession, you could study on or try out a new line etc.

                  Sooo enjoy yourself! ;)
