I've always said that Microsoft was the middle ground for the masses.

Let's be honest for a second. Linux has too much of a learning curve for the average pc user. Do you really think 90% of the people you work with could figure out Ubuntu, let alone one of the more difficult distros to use? Bah!

And Apple's problem is price. While their products may be superior in many ways, the price tag is a big turn off. Myself included. Why would I want to pay over a grand for a machine that looks pretty and runs well, but has few options? I'm a gamer, and Macs are the farthest thing you want if you are a gamer. Hell ... even Linux is better for gaming than Macs are.

So as I tell everyone who asks my opinion on the matter - if what you want is versatility and ease, then yes Windows is for you. No need to sell someone off on a mac pro if all they want to do is surf the net and send emails. And surely no need to tell them to pick up Linux if they aren't tech savvy. Anyone who is asking me for my opinion on which OS to choose has probably never heard of Linux, and it's all for the better.

Do you think difficulty of use will inspire Linux designers to develop easier, more user-friendly versions in the coming decade?
